Indications

Hyperacidity, Gastric & Duodenal ulcer, Gastritis, Heartburn, Dyspepsia, Gastroesophageal reflux. Also indicated for the relief of Flatulence, Abdominal distention and Windy colic.

Mechanism of Action

Magaldrate is a sulfate containing hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex, hydrotalcite like lattice layer structure and a discrete chemical entity rather than a physical mixture of Al (OH)₃ & Mg(OH)₂. The approximate formula of Magaldrate is Al₅Mg₁₀(OH)₃₁(SO₄)₂.xH₂O.

Magaldrate

• After ingestion of Novelta chewable tablet

• The hydroxymagnesium is relatively rapidly converted to Magnesium ion

• The negative charged layer situated between the positive charged layers that soaks up H⁺ ions

• Rapid onset of action occurs

• Aluminate converted to hydrated aluminium hydroxide

• Reacts more slowly to give a sustained antacid effect

• Prolonged acid neutralization occurs

  Simethicone

• Acts in the stomach and intestine

• Decreases the surface tension of gas bubbles

• Enabling them to coalesce
• Gas is freed and eliminated more easily
• By belching or passing flatus

Dosage and Administration

1-4 tablets of Novelta chewable tablet, 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by physician.
