Why Chewable Antacid is Better in heartburn?

Chewable antacid is more effective in preventing heartburn than swallowing an antacid, because antacids are primarily active in esophageal lumen, rather than neutralization of intragastric contents. When a tablet is swallowed it passes through the stomach too fast to neutralize the acid and when a tablet chewed, the antacid is ready to work as soon as it reaches the stomach.
